Notes	Also called "Hugh the white", "Hugh le Grand", or "Hugues le Blanc". Duke of France, Count of Paris, and one of the most powerful men in France. Hugh and Louis IV were engaged in a struggle for power in France until 945 when Hugh incarcerated him. After a year he was released and Hugh finally submitted to him in 951, after being excommunicated by French and German councils as well as the Pope.
